A brand new
business banking
experience
A brand new business
banking experience
Asociación Popular de Ahorros y Préstamos has been leading the market since 1962. For the last few years, they've been focused on expanding their digital services.
Before this project, they only had a personal banking app, but a big portion of their clients are businesses that required more specialized tools. With Móvil Empresas APAP, the goal was to recreate the easy experience of personal banking within the complexity of the business sector.

Feature mapping
To kick off the project, I mapped out the infrastructure based on initial requirements, separating the envisioned features into sections. This allowed us to pinpoint what needed to be worked on first, in order to lay the groundwork for future releases.
Based on the MVP scope, we defined our key sections to be Login & Onboarding, Product Management and Transactions.

With the infrastructure approved, I moved on to creating detailed flowcharts for each section to figure out their complexity on paper first. We could then use this to validate with the client if all the requirements were being met.
These charts then serve as a guideline for wireframing, reducing the amount of back and forth necessary, since the flow had already been approved on paper beforehand.

Individuality in a shared space
Unlike with personal banking, business accounts are shared between multiple users and have a long list of products and transactions that are used in their day to day.
Our main challenge was to design this product in a way where each individual user could experience it like a simple, personal banking app, while having their actions be connected and visible to the larger whole of the business account.

Setting the tone
The visual design for the product had to be based on our client's brand brief, but we wanted to separate it from their other products to deliver a distinct feeling to this new userbase.
We moved away from their usual light palette, focusing instead on dark tones and black backgrounds to create a sleek and professional look and feel for businesses, while using APAP's signature yellow as an accent to tie it in with the rest of their products.

Final and MVP deliverables
Although the first release was only MVP, we designed the features with their final version in mind.
For each deliverable, we created a simplified version and outlined the differences between final and MVP.

The first version of the product was launched to the public in May 2023, and has since been ongoing further development to complete the full design scope we delivered.
The success of this project marked the beginning of an ongoing work relationship with APAP, securing a contract extension with my company spanning for more than two years.
